Sideline Snack Ideas for Spectators

The hustle of getting the family together to head out to the local soccer game can be exciting - and possibly distracting, which could lead to a snack-less few hours on the sidelines. Having a meal plan prepped and ready will help make game day less hectic and more enjoyable for everyone. Below are a few ideas that would be easy game day snacks for spectators.

Pack a cooler

If your family has a new athlete, now’s the time to start cleaning out the cooler. The key, as mentioned earlier, is to have a plan so you can avoid packing the whole refrigerator.

Always make sure to grab bottles of water for everyone, even your athlete. It will be much appreciated by them when they have a second to cool down and rehydrate. For long events, freeze water bottles and juice boxes to help keep them stay cool longer. Whenever your athlete gets a break, throw their shirt in the cooler on especially hot game days.

A few more ideas for the cooler could be pre-made sandwiches, a few juice boxes for younger spectators, and yogurt cups.

Use fruit as fuel

When trying to come up with a healthy snack, keep in mind that many prepackaged snack foods are highly processed and full of artificial ingredients. To avoid these, slice up some fruit and make everyone their own mixed fruit cup to grab out of the cooler when they need a cool and refreshing treat. Fruits are sources of many essential nutrients and natural fruit juice is known to help with lightheadedness.

Snacks for your athlete

Whether you’re a parent prepping snacks for your child’s soccer team or you are prepping for a pro-athlete, the food you decide to bring can give them the edge they need to win the game. Pack a variety of grains, fruits, vegetables and protein sources for them to choose from. Some examples of these food groups would be:

  • Cheese sticks or slices
  • Dry cereal
  • Graham crackers
  • A variety of nuts
  • Peanut or nut butters
  • Deli meat slices
  • Meat jerky
  • Yogurt
  • Low fat milk (for before and after the game)
  • Hummus
  • Applesauce

Always make sure to pack enough, even though spectators aren’t out on the field, they are still out applauding their athletes and can also benefit from these snacks.

We hope these tips have helped you with some ideas for a snack list for yourself, your family, and your athlete! With a well prepped meal plan, you’ll never have to worry about getting distracted from cheering your athlete on from the sidelines.
